Assalamualaikum.
Musafir Homes is a family-run business, founded by us, Syeda and Numan. It grew from our love of travel and our frustration at how often Muslim travellers were overlooked. We saw a growing desire among Muslims in the West to explore heritage, culture, and new destinations. At the same time, we found that even providers less familiar with Muslim guests welcomed the respectful, and peaceful presence that Muslim travellers bring.
Our own journeys taught us how easy it is to wander without really understanding a place. A saying attributed to Rumi now echoes that experience and guides our work: Whoever travels without a guide needs two hundred years for a two-day journey.
With over 20 years’ experience organizing educational trips and teaching Art and Design, I’ve always believed in connecting people with culture and traditions, and in the healing power of art and nature. What was once a vision has become a reality alhamdulillah and in many of our retreats, we now hold workshops at the foot of mountains and rivers, and bring other authentic and immersive experiences which capture the essence of the location or season. Our work goes far beyond the destination; each experience is thoughtfully crafted to ensure guests connect meaningfully with the location’s history, and there is depth in the activities we design.
My husband grew up in a remote village, and his love for simple, traditional environments inspires us to seek out destinations where guests can learn from age old practices about nutrition, healing, stillness and nature.
Designing Meaningful Retreats
Retreat planning is my forte and where my heart lies. As a Muslim woman, I understand the unique challenges our communities face when travelling, and this deeply shapes the care, consideration and sensitivity I bring to every journey I design. It has been inspiring to see more Muslim women leading in the travel industry and working with both men and woman to enhance experiences and bring diversity.
We design retreats that honour prayer, comfort, and personal space. Some are sisters-only, others welcome families, couples, and groups. We’re humbled by the trust guests place in us, whether they’re brothers or sisters travelling with elderly parents, male or female professionals and home-makers travelling on their own or in a group, or parents entrusting their sons or daughters for a halal-friendly escape.

We work closely with local businesses and practitioners, choosing partners who respect their communities and pay them fairly. Every retreat balances exploration with rest, cultural immersion with comfort, and structure with personal time. Our journeys reflect our values: respect, curiosity, authenticity, and a commitment to destinations that truly welcome our Muslim guests.
