We share important tips about traveling to Turkey citing in blue advice you will generally find on the internet! Please do your own due diligence and check information before you travel as things can change from the time of writing this article.
TIP 1 -PASSPORT VALIDITY: Passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date.
MUSAFIR: We witnessed several customers being turned away at check-in due to a simple mistake. Make sure your passport has more than 6 months.
TIP 2- TRAVEL INSURANCE: Get comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies.
MUSAFIR: The reality is that if you or your child falls ill, you might encounter clinics or hospitals that don’t accept your insurance provider. Be ready to pay for private care. A standard check-up can cost around £100, (prices in December 2024), but these prices can vary across providers.
TIP 3- CURRENCY EXCHANGE: Exchange money at banks or reputable exchange bureaus to receive the best rates.
MUSAFIR: It’s best to avoid the exchange bureau at the airport, as they typically offer the lowest rates. For a better deal, consider using international cards (like Revolut). Alternatively, banks in Turkey generally provide fair rates as well.
TIP 4- TRANSPORTATION.: Consider using public transportation like buses or the metro for convenient travel within cities.
MUSAFIR: Public transport is efficient and affordable, but may not be ideal for the elderly or those with young children, as seating is often limited. I
TIP 5- CAR HIRE
MUSAFIR: After paying for insurance online a few times, only to find it went to the agent, we now book the car and settle insurance directly in Turkey to avoid paying it twice. This may vary by provider, so always check before booking.
TIP 6-TRANSLATION APP
MUSAFIR: Don’t expect widespread English in restaurants and shops—download a translation app before you go and be ready to use it!
